When you use, place orders or access your account information, we offer the use of a secure server. The secure socket link (SSL) encrypts all the information you input before it is sent to us. We use a certificate to authenticate and encrypt all communications between you and our servers, keeping your data safe. We also regularly check our servers for security breaches, and actively record and report all fraudulent activities to law enforcement.

Cookies

Cookies are pieces of information that a web site transfers to your computer’s hard drive to store, and occasionally track information about you. Most web browsers accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can tell your browser to stop them. Although they do identify a user’s computer, cookies do not personally identify users and passwords and credit card information. Certain Helium22 pages within the site may use cookies. We use cookies to keep you signed in, to fill in entry fields when you register so that you are not asked to register twice, and to remember that you have seen the cookie notice. We also use Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies — see Google Analytics below. The notice shown on your first visit asks you to accept cookies, and the Google Analytics cookies are not set until you do.

Website analytics

We keep our own record of how this website is used, and we keep it on our own servers.

When you view a page we record the page you viewed, the date and time, your IP address, the browser identification your device sends, the site that referred you to us (if any) and, if you are signed in, the account you used. Where it helps us understand where our visitors come from, we may work out an approximate location from your IP address. That lookup happens on our own servers; your address is not sent to anyone else.

Counting visitors does not itself involve a cookie. Rather than store an identifier on your device, we store a one-way code made from your IP address, your browser identification and the date. This lets us see how many people visited on a given day without building a picture of you. The code cannot be reversed to recover your details, and a visit on one day is not linked to a visit on another. This site does use cookies for other purposes, as explained under Cookies above.

We do this in our legitimate interests: to understand which pages are useful, to find broken links and to notice misuse of the site. We do not use this information to advertise to you, to make decisions about you or to build a profile of you, and we neither sell it nor pass it to anyone else.

These records are deleted automatically after 12 months. If you ask us to close and erase your account, the analytics records connected to it have your IP address, your browser identification and the link to your account removed at the same time. You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to erase it, using the details on our Contact page.

Google Analytics

As well as the record we keep ourselves, we use Google Analytics to understand how this website is used. Google Analytics is provided by Google and places cookies on your device, which allow it to recognise your browser when you return and to follow the pages you visit within this site.

The information collected by Google Analytics is sent to and stored by Google, who process it on our behalf and may transfer it outside the United Kingdom. It may include your approximate location, the pages you view, how long you spend on them and technical details of your device and browser. We do not use it to identify you by name, and we do not combine it with the account details you give us when you register.

These cookies are only set once you have accepted the cookie notice shown on your first visit. If you do not accept it, Google Analytics is not loaded and no Google cookies are placed on your device. You can also clear the cookies through your browser at any time, or install Google’s own opt-out add-on, available from tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Google’s own privacy information explains what they do with the data, and is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

Any lender may use the information provided to credit reference agencies, if you, or any other members of your household, apply for other facilities, and for occasional debt tracing and fraud prevention purposes. We may also pass information to financial and other organisations involved in fraud prevention to protect us and our customers from theft and fraud.
